Understanding Access Codes

Programming access codes on the Schlage Encode Plus smart lock allows you to control who can enter your property and when. Whether you need a temporary code for a guest or a permanent code for family members, the process is straightforward and can be done directly through the lock or the Schlage Home app.

Understanding Access Codes

Access codes are numeric combinations that unlock your Schlage Encode Plus lock. You can assign different codes for different users, set expiration dates for temporary codes, and manage all codes remotely via the app or directly on the lock.

Programming Permanent Access Codes

To set a permanent code, follow these steps:

  • Ensure the lock is in programming mode by pressing the “Program” button on the interior side of the lock.
  • Using the keypad, enter the default programming code (usually set during installation or as provided in the manual).
  • Press the “Schlage” button or the “#” key to access programming options.
  • Enter the “Add User” command, often by pressing “4” or following specific prompts in the manual.
  • Input the new 4-6 digit access code you wish to assign.
  • Confirm the code by re-entering it when prompted.
  • Exit programming mode by pressing the “Schlage” button or waiting for the lock to timeout.

The new permanent code is now active and can be used to unlock the door at any time.

Programming Temporary Access Codes

Temporary codes are useful for short-term access, such as for visitors or service providers. To program a temporary code, follow these steps:

  • Enter programming mode as described above.
  • Select the “Add User” or equivalent option.
  • Input the desired temporary code.
  • Set the expiration date and time for the code, if your lock supports this feature, using the app or lock interface.
  • Confirm and save the temporary code.
  • Exit programming mode.

The temporary code will automatically deactivate once the set expiration time passes, ensuring secure access management.

Managing Access Codes via the Schlage App

The Schlage Home app simplifies the process of programming and managing access codes. You can:

  • Create, edit, or delete permanent and temporary codes remotely.
  • Set expiration dates for temporary codes.
  • View a log of recent lock activity.
  • Assign specific codes to individual users.

Ensure your lock is connected to Wi-Fi and linked to your app before attempting to program codes remotely.

Security Tips

To maintain security when programming access codes:

  • Use unique, hard-to-guess codes.
  • Regularly update temporary codes.
  • Disable unused codes promptly.
  • Keep your app updated with the latest firmware.

Following these steps ensures secure and flexible access control with your Schlage Encode Plus lock.
