Creating a guest network on your Ubiquiti Unifi 7 Pro is an excellent way to provide internet access to visitors without compromising your main network security. This guide walks you through the steps to set up a secure and efficient guest network.
Prerequisites
- A Ubiquiti Unifi 7 Pro device configured and connected to your network.
- Access to the Unifi Network Controller software or web interface.
- Administrator credentials for your Unifi Controller.
Accessing the Unifi Network Controller
Log in to your Unifi Network Controller through your web browser. Enter your IP address or domain name followed by the port number if necessary, then input your administrator username and password.
Creating a Guest Network
Navigate to Wi-Fi Settings
In the Controller dashboard, click on the “Settings” icon, then select “Wi-Fi” from the menu. This section displays all existing Wi-Fi networks.
Add a New Wi-Fi Network
Click on “Create New Wi-Fi” or the “+” button. Enter a name for your guest network, such as “Guest_WiFi”.
Configure Network Settings
Set the security protocol to WPA2 or WPA3, and create a strong password. Enable “Guest Policy” or “Guest Access” options if available, to isolate this network from your main network.
Applying Network Restrictions
In the network settings, navigate to the “Advanced” or “Restrictions” section. Enable network isolation to prevent guests from accessing your internal devices and resources.
Finalizing and Activating the Guest Network
Review your settings, then click “Save” or “Apply”. Your new guest Wi-Fi network will now be active and available for visitors to connect.
Testing the Guest Network
Use a device to connect to the newly created Wi-Fi network using the password you set. Verify that internet access works and that the device cannot access your main network devices.
Maintaining Your Guest Network
Regularly update the Wi-Fi password and review connected devices to ensure your network remains secure. Consider setting a guest access expiration time if supported by your controller.
